One thing that has become obvious over the past few weeks is that the M.A.L.adies (or, far more likely, M.A.L.ady) are/is obsessed not only with Marc Adamus himself, but with an increasingly large number of other photographers they have accused of being "thugs," "morons," and "useful idiots" in Marc Adamus' "reign of terror." Since there is clearly no "reign of terror" (except for a number of photographers admiring the work of someone the M.A.L.adies detest), this is clearly not the reason for the M.A.L.adies' unbelievably-personal animosity toward them.
I tend to suspect that the answer is somewhat simpler. Since the M.A.L.adies obviously are bitter over their own inability to produce landscape work that measures up to Adamus's, so they likewise detest these other photographers for turning out quality work that they themselves can't equal. Hey, if you can't build yourself up, tear those better than yourself down. Right?
Hence, I think it's time this site recognize and honor those photographers whose art has generated such an extreme case of "sour grapes" among the M.A.L.adies. From now on, a M.A.L.L. Honor Roll sidebar will appear on this site, with the names of the honored photographers and (as often as possible) links to their work so visitors can see what great images drove the M.A.L.adies to heights of envy-driven rage.
For the moment, this list is restricted to those originally placed on the M.A.L.adies' "thugs" and "useful idiots" lists on their main site. However, they have singled out many additional photographers for similar treatment on their blog site, and as soon as I have a chance to go through their hundred-whatever posts and record the names, those names will be added as well.
It's long past time that denunciation by the M.A.L.adies become recognized for what it is: a badge of honor.

I just needed to go on record to say I don't know anyone named Sam Forman. I can't bring myself to post anything again on that 'other' site; but if this has been a good 'friend' of mine - I have no idea who it is, since I've never been friends with someone by that name.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I am sad to learn that a friendship has desolved, but this is the first I'm hearing about. Secondly, I don't remember taking sides in any of the "Marc Adamus debacle / debate" with anyone; in fact to the contrary; as is my S.O.P. I tend to remain neutral, and let others form their own opinion.
... for the record.
Thanks for your note, Gary.
ReplyDeleteI'm not surprised you wouldn't know a "Sam Forman," because all the names of the "staff" on that site are clearly pseudonyms. (One editor with a first name of "Clark," and the other with a last name of "Kent," for example.) Obviously, the whole thing is the work of one person with an ax to grind, and who's trying to convince people there's more than one of him. (On the other hand, I'm clearly using a pseudonym, and readily admit I'm the only person running this site.)
By the way, I had forgotten about your run-ins with the M.A.L.ady site (as, undoubtedly, had you, since the war seemed to be pretty much one-way). Look for you to make the next revision of the M.A.L.L. Honor Roll, along with the other photographers they've attacked on their blog site. Congratulations!

There isn't any 'debate' to be had here. MAL. is clearly wrong for what they've done in every moral and legal sense conceiveable. The only thing they've done in the past 4 months is get kicked off of every forum they've posted to and used it to further their senseless hate and jealosy towards other photographers. They also repeatedly sensor comments to their blogs, my own included, so not much use in posting there anyway.
ReplyDeleteGary - you'll know who it is soon enough. Sam Forman?! What a joke!

ReplyDeleteI have to say that I feel privileged to be in the company of such great photographers. Thank you very for putting me on the list. I hesitated in writing this due to the temptation to be manipulated by the fear of retributive slander and defamation (a person lying to try to ruin careers) but decided to say this publicly in defiance of a person(s) who would like to use fear to control us.
I certainly look forward to the craziness to stop and for justice to run its course.
Having an opinion of someones work and making that public is fine and legal, but to slander, defame and lie to ruin careers and reputations is almost as ugly as it gets.
I am so looking forward to the day we find out who it is. It will be an interesting legal litmus test of "web use" vs slander when it goes to court. Whoever is the MAL site has some seriouse issues.
